Everyone involved in your care is a professional who is specially trained
in the science of radiation oncology. Team members are selected not only
for their expertise in the field, but for their caring and compassionate
concern for you as a patient. This team ensures that each patient receives
the best care and the most current technological advances for their treatment.

Radiation Oncologist:
The radiation oncologist is a medical doctor who has received training in
the treatment of cancer and other diseases using radiation therapy.
Dr. Teresa A. Reed is our Radiation Oncologist as well and Medical Director
for the Institute. Click here to read her curriculum
vitae.
Medical Physicist:
Medical physicists are responsible for developing and directing quality
control programs for equipment and procedures. They are responsible for
making sure the equipment works properly. Physicists take precise measurements
of radiation beam characteristics and do other safety tests on a regular
basis. Physicists work directly with the doctor in the treatment planning
and delivery to help ensure that complex treatments are properly tailored
for each patient. They are certified by the American Board of Radiology
or the American Board of Medical Physics. Medical Dosimetrist:
Dosimetrists carefully calculate the doses of radiation to ensure the tumor
receives enough radiation. They develop many treatment plans to destroy
the tumor while sparing healthy tissue. Many of these treatment plans are
very complex. Dosimetrists work with the doctor and the medical physicist
to choose the treatment plan that is right for each patient. The Medical
Dosimetrist Certification Board certifies Dosimetrists. Radiation Therapist:
Radiation Therapists administer the daily radiation treatment under the
doctor's prescription and supervision. They maintain daily records and regularly
check the treatment machines to ensure they are functioning properly. They
are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Radiation Oncology Nurse:
Oncology nurses work with the radiation oncology team to help evaluate the
patient prior to and during the treatment course. They also care for patients
during the course of treatment and talk to patients about potential side
effects and their management. During the treatment, patients may be evaluated
weekly or more frequently by the nurse to assess problems and concerns.
Nurses are certified by the State Board of Nursing.
Office Staff:
There are a number of office staff who will assist you with your treatment
planning process. Our front office team is responsible for scheduling appointments,
as well as verifying your insurance and reviewing your payment options with
you, and our medical assistant is there to support you during the treatment
process.
